The treatment and management of prostate cancer most often involves surgery (either of the primary tumor or removal of the testes to help treat advanced disease), hormonal therapy, and/or radiation therapy. In some cases, chemotherapy may also be used if the cancer has spread and is resistant to other types of treatment. At this time, chemotherapy is not generally a recommended option for the primary treatment of prostate cancer, other than in ongoing clinical trials but it may be used to treat advanced cancer that is resistant to other types of treatment.
